Hi, I’m Andy! Short for Andrel.
My journey to Product Design was far from linear.
I graduated from Trinity University, in the midst of a global pandemic, with Bachelor of Science in Biology. During my time at Trinity, I was captain of the Track and Field team, so between chem labs and track practice, I didn’t have much time to explore hobbies I once held near and dear to my heart. However, following graduation, I found myself with more time than ever to tap back-in to passions that I had left behind due to my lack of availability during undergrad.
By day, my time was consumed working as a Research Operations Coordinator, but by evening, I was exploring courses in product design. Shortly after graduating from a UX/UI bootcamp, I began to balance my day-job with an after-hours pursuit for design. I took on contract roles aiding smaller businesses in establishing their design library and brand identity. I felt a fulfillment through design that I’d long been searching for in my career.
Shortly there after, I began working full-time at a B2B SaaS company that specialized in online stores for promotional products. During my time there, I led end-to-end design and research initiatives that solved problems impacting our user’s experience, collaborated daily with Engineering and Product using agile methodologies, and deepened cross-functional relationships with Revenue and Success teams to solve pain points for both internal stakeholders and end-users.
As a product designer, I thrive in the ambiguity. I enjoy meticulously sifting through details, problem solving with my team, and bringing solutions to the table. I pride myself in putting the user first and maintaining empathy in my approach.
My Values
Lead by Example
Team is everything. Strong collaboration hinges on respect, an open-mind, and healthy levels of friction. I believe that successful teams challenge one another and celebrate each other’s wins.
Maintain a Student Mindset
I hope to never stop learning. I seek methods to develop my skillset by reading up on blogs, attending conferences, or just being a part of the design community.
Treat Others with Kindness
The best products are inclusive. By introducing diversity of thought, you story-tell in a manner that resonates with a multitude of users, making the greatest impact.
Embrace the Discomfort
Allowing curiosity to be a driving force can lead you to solutions you may have never considered otherwise. Growth comes when you push the boundaries.
